Contest Winner: Image Compression Algorithm for GE

AUSTIN, Texas & CHICAGO, Illinois – April, 2017 — GradientD’s Daniel James, working in conjunction with VisMed3D‘s Dima Elissa, placed 3rd in the “Speedy CT Image Delivery” contest held by GE’s community sourced Fuse initiative, now known as Launch Forth. This contest challenged entrants to come up with innovative ways to losslessly compress CT scan (DCOM) image data better than could be done with JPEG2000.

DCOM image data, commonly used in medical and industrial applications, often needs to be transferred over the internet in time sensitive scenarios. Better compression means less to transfer, which leads to faster delivery of time-critical assets.

This team succeeded inventing a compression algorithm that could beat JPEG2000 in a number of applicable scenarios, especially with industrial applications, such as aircraft parts manufacture.

In the interest of retaining intellectual property rights to the invention, the team turned down the prize money, applied for a patent, and has been incubating and researching applications of the algorithm in the meantime.

MapperActive 3.0 Release

AUSTIN, Texas – March 1, 2015 — GradientD today launched version 3.0 of MapperActive.  A major change in this new release is the conversion from Flash to reactive HTML5 technology.  With this change, MapperActive interactive maps are now viewable on more platforms, devices, and browsers; e.g. iPhone, Android, Mac OS X, Windows, IE, Safari, Chrome and Firefox.  Version 2.0 will still be available and optionally provided on deployments.

MapperActive helps conference exhibitors and attendees navigate an event’s trade show floor.  With mapperActive, individuals can use the interactive features of the map to optimize their visit by planning their itinerary path prior to and during an event, on any device.

The MapperActive interactive map was developed by GradientD, of Austin, Texas.  According to Daniel James, owner of GradientD, “Our goal is to provide an easy to use, affordable solution to help conference managers guide their attendees to exhibits and other items of interest on a show floor. Maps can be customized in a variety of creative ways. For example, they can be adapted for pre-show use to help exhibitors identify available booths they can reserve. With multiple methods to use the map, we provide our customers with the ability to view a map as it relates to their specific needs.”

mapperActive offers a customizable solution that is focused on a user experience that is clear and intuitive, and a user interface that is visually appealing. The product can be accessed via the internet, touchscreen kiosks or smart hand held devices.

MapperActive Offers an Affordable Interactive Event Map

AUSTIN, Texas – April 20, 2009 — GradientD today launched version 2.0 of MapperActive, a customizable, touch screen friendly interactive map that helps conference exhibitors and attendees navigate an event’s trade show floor. With MapperActive, conference attendees can optimize their vendor visits by planning their itinerary path prior to reaching an event via the web, and during the show via kiosks. MapperActive promises to change the way customers navigate events in general.

At the conference, users can pan and zoom to any area on the conference floor and then tap a location on a touchscreen kiosk to view detailed information about exhibits. Alternatively, users can tap on exhibits in a directory to reveal their location on the map. Remote users can access the same interactive map in a browser on the web.

The MapperActive interactive map was developed by GradientD, of Austin, Texas. According to Daniel James, president of GradientD, “Our goal is to provide an easy to use, affordable solution to help conference managers guide their attendees to exhibits and other items of interest on a show floor. Maps can be customized in a variety of creative ways. For example, they can be adapted for pre-show use to help exhibitors identify available booths they can reserve. With multiple methods to use the map, we provide our customers with the ability to view a map as it relates to their specific needs.”

Jeff Rasco, founder and president of Attendee Management, Inc. and an industry expert in meeting and event management states, “Interactive maps are a critical piece of any conference or event with exhibitions or other components that attendees need to find. In our observations, while offering a responsive attendee experience, mapping technologies can be cost prohibitive. The MapperActive solution provides clients an easy-to-use, highly-customizable, interactive map starting at around $3,000. This is the first affordable and truly interactive map for conference managers and event planners we’ve seen – opening this capability to organizations that previously might not have been able to offer it.”

MapperActive offers a customizable solution that is focused on a user experience that is clear and intuitive, and a user interface that is visually appealing. The product can be accessed either via the internet or via touchscreen kiosks.

Bertolli “Nights In Studio” Promotional Video Booth

AUSTIN, Texas, CHICAGO, Illinois & NEW YORK CITY, New York – February, 2008 — GradientD worked in conjunction with VisualMedia (now VisMed3D), Ogilvy and Unilever to create a “video booth” (like a picture booth, but with video) as part of a campaign to help promote Bertolli’s line of frozen dinner products.

Entitled “Bertolli Nights In”, hosted by celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, and popped up during the 80th Academy Awards in Los Angeles and New York, passers by would enter the booth and record a story of their perfect “romantic night in”. The best story winner would get “full star treatment from Bertolli in Hollywood”, and voters had the opportunity to win “a trip to NYC and a chance to meet celeb chef hunk Rocco DiSpirito.”

This project involved creating software that would present the user of the booth with instructions, record their video, take credit card information and process the videos for review by Bertolli staff.

Here’s a video from the campaign.
